Construction and development company Ballast Nedam Industriebouw is facing a challenge: creating a safe working environment for employees and partners. The safety, health, and well-being of employees, clients, partners, and other stakeholders are always the top priority.

To bring safety topics to the forefront, we teamed up to create:

  • a safety mascot;
  • custom design style and style guide;
  • 7 explainer animations;

Execution of the safety campaign

“How do you keep safety awareness top of mind for employees at all times?” To tackle this challenge, we launched a safety campaign for Ballast Nedam Industriebouw.

The starting point? Safety mascot Bas Ballast! He was inspired by Bas Kleinjan, who has been a trusted safety expert within Ballast Nedam Industriebouw for many years. While Bas can’t always be on-site to remind employees about safety, mascot Bas Ballast can step in to do just that. Check out the video to see his transformation. The goal of Bas Ballast is to say as much as possible with as few words as needed, delivering clear, simple messages that everyone can understand.

2022 – Introduction Bas Ballast

With this animation, we introduced Bas Ballast to all employees and stakeholders, marking the start of a long-term safety campaign. From now on, Bas is everywhere, in explainer animations, on posters at the construction site, and even as a life-size cardboard cutout at the office.

Ballast Nedam Industriebouw is leading the way not only in safety but in other areas as well. For instance, a relatively large number of women work in construction here, and the company offers a women-friendly PPE line. While creating the visual content, we paid special attention to character diversity to ensure the diversity of the company also shines through. 

2023 – Life saving rules

Animation helps us turn complex information into something clear and easy to understand. Take the life-saving rules, for example, a key standard in the industrial sector. These rules are designed to prevent serious incidents, so it’s vital that everyone working on or around a construction site knows them well.

In this animation, Bas Ballast explains Ballast Nedam Industriebouw’s 9 life-saving rules in just two minutes, making the information both accessible and enjoyable to watch.
