Have you been pwned?

Criminals use hacked databases to send Phishing emails or SPAM (including Fake News) to their victims. As you saw in our AnyStory, you are more at risk if the bad guys have a lot of information on you. So, don’t let them have it!

Haveibeenpowned is a website that helps you check if your email account, passwords, and other information have been found in any known data breaches. Most people have had their data leaked at least once, so checking if you are compromised might be a good idea!

If you are, change your passwords right away! Problems coming up with a strong password? We recommend LastPass or any other password manager to generate strong passwords and store them safely online. Lastpass can also keep track of whether you are powned or not.

Privacy settings on social media channels

Ensure that your data is being handled the way you want. Adjust your settings for any social media platform you use.

At Facebook, you can choose that your messages are only shared with your friends. By default, the privacy settings of Facebook are public. If you decide to adjust these, you naturally do not want all your old messages to remain public.

We search for information on the internet every day. This search behaviour is used to offer you relevant advertisements. For LinkedIn, the standard setting applies that LinkedIn may use your search behaviour to offer you relevant (er) content (advertisements and vacancies). If you do not want this, you expect that the number of ads in your feed may also be lower. But this is not the case.

On Twitter, you can choose whether your tweets are public or protected. Protected sounds a lot safer, but it also brings the necessary limitations. When you share protected tweets, your responses to Tweets from Twitterers who do not have access to your account are not visible to Twitterers. This can ensure that when you answer a question to a marketing specialist with whom you have no connection, this potential new customer cannot read this answer.

When you use the Social Media platform Instagram, your profile is public by default. This means that anyone looking for your profile can see your photos and videos. You don’t want this? Then choose a private account. Everyone who wants to see your messages, followers or follow list must first send a follow request.

As you may know, Instagram and Facebook are linked together. Now you may not want to share the photos that you share on Facebook on Instagram. If you do not want this, you can unlink your linked account.
